They’re starting to call it "Mobile Television" but it’s really nothing of the sort. It’s actually digital television on your phone or similar wireless device. You know, one of the many little gadgets people carry (and use) nearly everywhere. Some bright genius has decided that since these things have displays on them that its a good idea to make television broadcasts available on them.

What got me on this? I saw an AP story about Europe’s annual wireless industry show in Barcelona. They’re going on and on about this and it looks to me like the concensus is that "Mobile Television" and "Wireless Internet" services on phones and such is like the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Call me spoiled, but I’ll stick with my 27 inch conventional set… I can watch it from across the room and not have eyestrain or any of the other problems that come with trying to look at moving pictures on a screen as small as most phones and other wireless critters have. I also prefer to keep my Internet use to my desktop pc. Some may think it’s quaint and old fashioned, but again, it makes more sense to me. No eyestrain problems and it’s got a real mouse, a real keyboard and a nice big seventeen inch monitor. I’ve seen people ‘texting’ on phones, and the idea of having to use a telephone keypad or a ‘keyboard’ that’s so small I need to use a stylus to operate it is not even sensible to me. If it works for you, fine. I’m not interested.
