D-Wave Systems Inc., a company in Canada has claimed to achive a working quantum computer but scientists (and a lot of other folks) are beginning to have some serious doubts. It seems that when D-Wave did their demonstration, it was only by remote video. The machine itself was not made available for inspection.
They’re also dragging their feet when it comes to submitting their findings for peer review, which is one of the steps for gaining acceptance in scientific circles. Peer review is important because if your science is solid, and your discoveries are accurate, then others will be able to examine your data and duplicate your results in their own experiments. Anyone seeking acceptance of new discoveries is going to have to go through this process in order to validate their claims.
