Canadian Broadcasting Corporation/Radio Canada has an article in which they’re encouraging PC users that instead of whatever flavor of Microsoft windows you care to name OR the MAC alternative, they should give serious consideration to Ubuntu Linux.
The writer does a great job of giving a ‘quick version’ history of Linux and explaining that not only is Ubuntu a free distribution, you can even download a “Live CD” to try it out without removing windows or installing anything.
Basically all you need to do is download the Ubuntu Live Cd ISO file and use your CD burner software to burn the cd using that ISO file.
When it’s done, All you need to do is boot your computer from the Live CD and you get to see Ubuntu in action. It’s installed entirely on the CD, so you can boot from it and try it out. When you’re done, you shut down the computer, pop out the cd, and then boot normaly and you’re back in windows again with all your stuff still there.
If at some point you decide to make the switch permanent, the same Live CD can be used to do the full installation.
