I just saw an AP news story on iwon.com that talked about Dell’s recent decision to once again give people the option of getting XP instead of Vista. The article said that they did this because on Dell’s Ideastorm site, the “Don’t eliminate XP just yet” idea racked up over 10,000 votes.

That’s all fine and dandy, and I’m glad they’ve decided to give customers a chance to “Just say NO to Vista” (that has a nice ring, doesn’t it?). However, what the article did NOT mention is that while the plea to keep XP has 10758 votes as of this writing. There are SEVERAL more asking Dell to make machines available with popular linux builds…. ALL with thousands more votes. Yet, to my knowledge, Dell has yet to offer a quality PC with say Ubuntu Linux instead of Windows.

I even mentioned this one a while back, but here it is again just for good measure. On the Ideastorm site, the idea asking for “Pre-Installed Linux | Ubuntu | Fedora | OpenSUSE | Multi-Boot” currently has 123176 votes. Clearly that shows a serious demand for PCs to come equipped with Linux OS’s instead of the beast from Redmond.

I wonder when Dell will listen to all those requests for Linux based PC’s?
