France Warns Officials on BlackBerry Use
PARIS (AP) - BlackBerry handhelds have been called addictive, invasive, wonderful - and now, a threat to French state secrets. That, at least, is the fear of French government defense experts, who have advised against their use by officials in France’s corridors of power, reportedly to avoid snooping by U.S. intelligence agencies.
Why do I think they don’t have a clue? Well…. First if they think that not routing messages through an American or British email server will secure them against an intelligence agency that wants to snoop their stuff, they’re sadly mistaken. I honestly don’t believe for one second that NSA and CIA types are really bothered at all by the nationality or location of a server that they want something from.
Second, This doesn’t just apply to Blackberry’s and other devices, it’s true of ANY email message. If you want privacy you can have it, but you have to be pro-active. Heck, there’s even a version of PGP that does for email sent by Blackberry that regular PGP has been doing for conventional email for years. I defy ANYONE to crack the contents of the brief msg posted below in encrypted form.
