I just saw this item about apple’s new IPhone and I can’t help wondering..

Industry Awaits ‘Revolutionary’ IPhone

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - There’s hype. There’s hysteria. And there’s history. The hype around Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s upcoming iPhone is abundantly clear. So is the hysteria. But how the iPhone will leave its historical mark after Friday’s launch is to be seen.

Will the gadget - which triples as a cell phone, iPod media player and a wireless Web device - be as “revolutionary” as Apple CEO Steve Jobs has claimed?

Why does a phone need to have ALL of that on it? I’m not trying to sound like a luddite, but really, why can’t a phone be a phone and just leave it at that? Things like contact lists (I guess that’s the new word for “Address Book” these days) and text messaging are one thing.

On the other hand, I can see no earthly reason why I would EVER want to surf the internet on a phone. If for no other reason, the screen is to flippin small!! I use a 17 inch monitor at home on my desktop and I’d really like to get a 19inch (or bigger) someday. I get eyestrain just thinking about trying to surf with a screen that’s maybe an inch and a half.

‘Nother thing they put in phones these days is MP3 players. Again, I can’t imagine ever wanting something like that. But then I’m not as addicted to constantly having something blasting music at me all the time as many people in modern society have allowed themselves to become. I’m quite satisfied with popping in a cd of some classic symphony or concerto instead.

Oh, I’m sure this thing will take off and before you know it you’ll be seeing and hearing IPhones until you’re ready to puke on the next person that mentions it.
