Weaponized Robots - No Thanks!

Y’know, I think development in the field of robotics has a lot of potential to do a lot of good. What I don’t want to see however is things like this:
Taser, IRobot Team Up to Arm Robots
BOSTON (AP) - RoboCops and robot soldiers got a little closer to reality Thursday as a maker of floor-cleaning automatons teamed up with a stun-gun manufacturer to arm track-wheeled ‘bots for the police and the Pentagon.
By adding Tasers to robots it already makes for the military, iRobot Corp. (IRBT) says it hopes to give soldiers and law enforcement a defensive, non-lethal tool.
Frankly, this brings to mind pictures of the ED209 robot in RoboCop, The thing was armed to the teeth and it’s programming had fatal flaws in it that allowed it to kill unchecked. Another story that comes to mind is Asimov’s I-Robot. Whether you read the Asimov book or saw the Will Smith movie the idea is essentially the same. Robots that are very difficult if not impossible to turn off, gaining control over humanity. No thanks.
Oh yeah, any Saberhagen fans out there? Can you say “Berserker”? ‘Nuff said.
Unlike Klatu’s people, we’re not the kind to create a race of robots and give them ultimate power over us. In fact, I’d like to think that if humanity every runs into such a thing and it decides to attack us, that we’d find a way to destroy every last one of them.
