E-mail without computers?

I just saw an article about a device being marketed that’s intended to bring E-Mail to People Without Computers.
Normally I’m intereseted in and optimistic about a lot of new innovations, but I can’t help thinking that this thing is pretty much doomed from the start. Mostly because it’s a one-way thing. It can recieve but there is no provision for a way to reply to or originate a message.
I can’t help thinking that the main cure to bring email to people who don’t have PC’s is to make low cost machines available and a little bit of instruction on how to do basic functions like sending and recieving email, using a web browser and so on.
I’d rather assume that people are able, and willing to learn as long as it’s presented properly and doesn’t cost ‘em a lot of money. Make it cheap enough you’d be surprized how many people would jump on.

First, a compliment on the name of your site. If it isn’t the dilithium crystals, it’s the deflector shield.
Have to agree with you here. But then again, look at WebTV or AOL… there may be enough of a need for someone to get wealthy.
Hmm… I don’t see the point, either, of receiving email without being able to send. Seems kinda silly. I guess you could call the person back, but I wouldn’t use it unless I could send.
