How can space exploration be boring?

Personally I don’t see it. I’ve always been fascinated by all aspects of space exploration. As a kid I watched the moon landings and even today I’ll stop and watch any launch that I know about. Yet I’ve heard people talking about how boring they think it is and how they think the money should be spent elsewhere. Of course, they don’t have any suggestions to replace the communications satelites that our modern world would have a hard time living without.
There’s also been a lot of technology developed because of the space program that we probably wouldn’t have otherwise. Were it not for the drive to create the technology that allows us to explore the solar system our world would still resemble 1950’s and 1960’s in terms of how we got things done.
Meantime, the shuttle Endeavor is out there right now with a gouge in it’s heat shield tiles. I’m sure everybody remembers the last time a shuttle had a tile failure. I sure do, I watched the live tv coverage.
