Wally World To Offer DRM free music

Walmart is the latest to get on the bandwagon of selling music online without DRM (Digital Rights Management) i.e. no copy protection.
They’re going to be selling tunes for 94 cents. Not only that, but they’re not going to be using obscure incompatible formats. So far, most places that I’ve seen talking about going DRM free are using MP3 format, Wally just has to be different I guess because they’re going to be using the Windows WMA format, which can not only be played on a lot of players, it can be converted to MP3
I’m not exactly a “fan” of WallyWorld, but they do have their moments and with something that big gets on the DRM free wagon, it’s going to go a lot farther.
Just offhand, I’d say that this spells the eventual end of DRM in music and sooner or later movies are going to follow suit.

Like you, I also agree that Walmart isn’t the best place on earth but most companies are trying to tap into ANY and EVERYTHING in order to bring in the extra cash. I doubt this will work in their favor though…time can only tell with that one.
