I suppose that even Sony is due for an occasional break and this new sugar based battery technology they’ve come up with might just be the ticket if it proves to be practical…

Sony Devises Earth-Friendly Battery Powered by Sugar

TOKYO — Sony has developed an environmentally-friendly prototype battery that runs on sugars and that can generate enough electricity to power a music player and a pair of speakers, the Japanese company said.

The bio battery’s casing is made of a vegetable-based plastic. It measures 3.9 cm (1.5 inch) along each edge and works by pouring sugar solution into the unit, where enzymes break it down to generate electricity.

Of course, this also assumes that they don’t get all BetaMax with it and once again shoot themselves in the foot by keeping too tight a hold on the technology. They’ve got to recognize that closed-source “black box” type systems and software are becoming less and less acceptable to more and more people.
