China's Internet Vision
Welcome back!
Of all places, the latest "big picture" internet vision is coming out of China. They're building this huge 3D world that they're calling the Beijing Cyber Recreation District, which is to be a virtual counterpart to the China Recreation District theme park, mall and playground being built for the 2008 Olympics. Their big idea is to eliminate the middle man in a big way.
By having website addresses added to the "made in China" labels they're hoping to make it easy for people to simply order goods directly from the manufacturer via the Internet.
Now honestly I can't say much against this because it's the general direction that the whole online world has been moving for years now. I do however question China's involvement in Internet related things however since they have such a really bad reputation for Internet censorship... It's not called "The Great Firewall of China" for nothing.
How much control over content is going to be involved in this? Specifically the exchange of Ideas and opinions? How long before the Chinese government finally realizes that because of the spread of the Interent freedom of speech is not going away.... ever.
