Micro$oft Blinked!

That’s actually what the headline that I just saw said. The headline says a lot all by itself: “Microsoft Blinks in European Legal Fight”
Then when you start to read the article you find out that Micro$oft has dropped a legal fight that they’ve been battling for nearly ten years. It’s plain that somebody must have gotten some major dirt if they were able to get M$ to drop the suit and agree to the antitrust ruling.
Among other things this means that they’re going to have to loosen their grip on key interoperability information about Windows that is needed in order for open source developers to be better able to create software that works smoothly with Windows.
Make no mistake, M$ isn’t done by a long shot and they’re still going to do everything they can to make sure that they get and keep a stranglehold on operating systems and related software for as long as possible. Yet this IS a win for the “little guy”.
They’ll insist that after all these years they finally managed to come to a point of agreement but I still think that somebody found some dirt and they’re giving in on this to keep it quiet.
