Science Fiction Meets Reality?

Welcome back!

It just goes to show how fast you can fall behind by not making an active effort to keep up with what's going on. For example, I just read a story about Scientists at MIT developing Tractor Beams.

The first thing that I thought of (of course) was Star Trek and the beams of force that allowed the Enterprise to reach out and grab another ship and haul it around or prevent an enemy from escaping.

Now it seems that the bright boys at MIT are doing just exactly that kind of thing. ... Of course they're not up to hauling starships around and they're not EVEN ready to change the course of anything bigger than a virus with it... but still, it's an awesome thought that something that was once strictly a science fiction plot device has begun moving into the world of real-life hard science.

Interesting read. Of course, when I was a kid I thought we would be riding in hover cars by now. Haaa. I’m 34 by the way, so I guess it’s about time for a tractor beam. :)
