Candlepower
Welcome back!
How many people like candles? Not just birthday candles, but the large four inch scented candles? In our house when the house is closed up most of the time during the winter and the air starts to get a little stale the way it does in winter, we like to use scented candles to freshen things up a bit. Among our favorites for scent is vanilla and cinnamon, though we've tried a bunch of varieties, most all of them good, we keep going back to the vanilla and cinnamon.
The problem with lighting candles though is that it's really not a great idea to leave them unattended... especially when there's children around. So this means having to put them out and make sure they're all the way out before leaving the room. Tonight I saw something that could change that...Flameless Window Candles. These candles are just like the regular ones, made of wax, a slightly blackened wick in it so that it LOOKS like it's burned, scented (or unscented, but where's the fun in that?), with one major difference. No fire.
This kind of candle is powered by a couple of triple-A batteries and the "flame" is an LED. These lights are designed to flicker and produce the same kind of glow as a real flame. In fact they're supposed to be so realistic that you have to actually look to be sure it's not burning for real. Of course, if you'd rather have a cool effect instead of realism, you could go for the color changing candles. This type is extra cool looking because it changes colors... you can also stop the color changing cycle to lock in any color you like. You can get more details at the company's website http://www.flamelesscandles.net
Of course there's the safety factor. Because no flame is involved and there is no soot, melted wax or need for matches or lighters, these can be left unattended without worry. Heck, you could even use one as a night light... now there's an interesting idea! A color changing candle used as a night light. I like that idea and I'd just bet kids would love it.
