Privacy And Google's Gdrive
Welcome back!
There's another article in slashdot today about Google's "Gdrive" project and apparently I'm a long way from being the only one that can see some serious privacy issues here. On the other hand, some are seeing the problem and it's obvious solution, but at the very least the way it's phrased sure looks like they're not getting the whole point.
From the slashdot email:
From the article: "Google would be wise to offer users an option to encrypt your information," says Nimrod Kozlovski, a professor of Internet law at Tel Aviv University. "It really needs to have really detailed explanations of what the legal expectations are for storing your info."
Yes, encryption is most certainly the answer but lets be clear here. The encryption in question MUST be entirely on the client side.... entirely within the user's control with absolutely no input from Google or anybody else. Otherwise it's like calling a real estate agent to do an open house tour of your house before you've gotten all the little things (like bills, mail, prescriptions Etc.) cleaned up that you normally don't care about but that you'd never want to be laying around when strangers come in.
Just copy this code and paste it on your site where you want the link to appear:
