Since our set is starting to get old and more importantly it’s an analog set, one of the things I can see us doing in the next year or so is to do something about upgrading to be digital ready when the “Big Switch” happens and analog tv signals are turned off in early 2009.

Now to be honest, our set, while old, still works fine. It’s just not digital. I know that assorted set top boxes will be available to convert the digital signal for analog sets, but honestly, between the cable box, the dvd player and the vcr, I think we’re already dealing with enough boxes in this setup. Besides, wouldn’t it be a great excuse to get one of those new Sony Flat Panel HDTV sets?

I spent some time looking at a Sony Flat Screen HDTV and this thing is looking great. I’m not going to go into the specs, partly because I don’t know that much about them myself. I will say that the parts I DO know about are impressive. Like 1920×1080 pixel resolution. There’s also a couple of links on the page with the details of the Sony Flat Panel HDTV that will be helpful: Like a listing of what programs on each of the major networks are broadcast in HD and another that will help people learn more about HDTV.

Honestly, I think the people who sell stuff like the SonyTV digital high-def sets are in a great position to do a LOT of business over the next year. Especially as the deadline for the switchover gets closer. And lets be honest guys, you and I both know that we’re not all that worried about the changeover so much as we are interested in something like a nice big tv taking up the lion’s share of a wall so that we can catch the Superbowl in Widescreen high def glory.
