Ericsson Executive Is Wrong About The Fate of Wi-Fi
I just read an annoying item on pcpro.co.uk that’s basically a Ericsson-pats-themselves-on-the-back-for-being-so-bright piece. In it, This executive is basically saying that with the advent of Internet connectivity on mobile devices like phones, PDAs and so on, that Wi-Fi hotspots will go the way of the dinosaur and the box telephone booth.
I think he’s wrong all the way. I don’t doubt that their High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology will continue to see increased use, I don’t for one minute think that plain old Wi-Fi will be going anywhere for a long time to come. The only reason they’re saying it will is because they’d make a bundle if it did.
The other thing about that article that was majorly annoying is the fact that just loading the page caused my browser to screech to a halt.. using 62% to 98% of cpu in the process. Funny how it got loads better when I re-enabled Adblock Plus. (I’d had it temporarily disabled for something else)
They need to re-work that site and take out half of the crap for it to be safe for browsers that don’t have things like Adblock Plus
