US Army Developing Robotic Suits

It’s interesting or even a bit ironic that this BBC News article shows up when it does, in time for the Iron man movie. With the advances being made in robotics these days and the fact that they’re showing up everywhere from robotic vacuum cleaners to steam cleaner and lawnmowers.
Sooner or later you KNOW the whole robotics thing had to be applied to military uses. Yeah, it’s been around already in military, in the form of what can be described as a bomb disposal unit retrofitted with a machine gun. Of course that idea has run into a snag recently and is now headed back to the drawing board to keep it from deciding to shoot at friendlies. (it didn’t do that, but it WAS moving it’s gun when it had no business doing so.)
Now this robotic suit idea is something better. Because there’s a human operator inside controlling it. This is more of a powered exoskeleton than a robotic anything though.
The BBC article did feature several videos however when I tried to watch them they just sat there pretending to load.

hmm this is very improve in US army.every country have some kind of this robotics thinks.
I’m not *quite* sure what you’re saying here, but I think that it’s only a matter of time before nations start playing the ‘mine is bigger and badder than yours’ game with military robots the way they did with nuclear weapons.
The problem is that robotic weapons present a potential threat to more than just the enemies. They can easily turn on their makers.
Fred Saberhagen’s “Berserkers” stories come to mind as a most appropriate example.
Its not fair to use robotics thing applied to military uses.
Whoever said that “fair” had anything to do with military anything?
The military isn’t about “fair”, it’s about defending your people and destroying the enemy if you’re attacked.
“fair” has nothing to do with it.
I thought that would have been rad, but then I saw a couple of the videos and had to laugh. I mean he was picking something up and putting it on something higher, then two guys were taking it right back off an back where he picked it up from. If he would have been jumping around and shooting a way rad gun then it might have been cool. I guess I will just have to watch Iron Man to get my fill.
