Cell Phones In Rural America

There was a time that I couldn’t imagine living in a rural area. Life outside the “big city” was unimaginable. I figured that since the city had everything it only made sense to stick close. Moving to a rural setting would mean a loss of access to a lot of things that city folk take for granted. One of the those things is a simple matter of cell phone reception.

In the city, cell phones may have an occasional problem with signal but generally speaking there’s enough signal coverage to ensure that most locations in a city are possible to get a good signal. The cell towers are located in various places in and around the city.. on top of buildings and so on.

In a rural area however it’s a different matter. For one thing, there’s a decided shortage of really tall buildings to put cell repeaters on top of to cover large areas easily. That’s where people start turning to a cell phone signal booster. What this device does is receive the signal and rebroadcast it so that it will reach the cell phone. For example, if the phone gets a decent signal on top of the house, instead of going out on the roof to use the phone you put the signal booster’s antenna on the roof. It amplifies the signal and relays it so that the phone can be used in places that are normally out of signal reach.
