When I first read this story I thought it just HAD to be a joke or something but it’s actually real. The EU is testing a new prototype system of cameras mounted in strategic places planes to monitor the facial expressions of passengers in order to detect terrorism and “air rage.”

What they’ve got is six wide angle cameras to watch the isles and regular straight on cameras located in the back of every seat. If you board this plane you WILL be watched and if the computer system monitoring the cameras decides that you’ve exhibited enough of the warning signs it’s programmed to look for will cause it to alert the plane’s crew so that they can keep a closer eye on you.

Y’know, I understand the need for heightened security these days but cameras in the back of every seat? I suppose if a passenger is seen taking their medication the system will also alert the crew to possible illegal drugs so that the unfortunate passenger can be hauled off the plane and strip searched. … only to find out that the “drugs” were things like tylenol, vitamins and Phentermine. When this is put in place I pity the nervous air travelers. They’re going to have the worst time of all.
