SoCal Selene Group Dropping Out Of Google Lunar X Prize Competition
Welcome back!
For those who haven't heard of it, here's a 'nutshell' description of what it is from the Google Lunar X Prize website:
The Google Lunar X PRIZE is a $30 million competition for the first privately funded team to send a robot to the moon, travel 500 meters and transmit video, images and data back to the Earth.
Until dropping out of the competition, The Southern California Selene Group was involved in this project that's intended to take lunar exploration to new levels. With more exploration we come that much closer to the return of mankind to the moon. This return will likely have astronauts packing considerably more luggage than they did back in the old Apollo days because a permanent manned base will be part of the plans.
Of course, that's all in the future. For now there's the project and even though the Selene Group has pulled out, there's four new teams involved, bringing the total to thirteen teams working on getting a privately funded robot to the moon.
