I just ran across something in the LA Times that I can’t help find a bit disturbing. It seems that some bright young genius has decided Chrysler should offer wireless Internet services … IN 2009 model cars. Is it just me or does anyone else have a problem with the prospect of people crusing the web at the same time they’re crusing the streets? Why not take it a step farther and include espresso machines and a full kitchen concealed in the dashboard?
If there’s been problems with people on the phone while driving, you can only imagine the amount of trouble that’s going to come from people using the web while driving.
On the other hand, this concept gives me an idea. How about take advantage of the fact that cars are nearly everywhere? Include hardware that essentially makes a car into a rolling hotspot for WiFi access as long as it is able to connect to at least one other hotspot.
I’ve heard about the various problems with Municipal WiFi over the last couple of years and it seems to me that something like this would do a good job of solving the problem of blanketing any metropolitan area with WiFi access.
