Y’know, it really sounds just like the telecommunications companies, you know, the one’s that managed to wrangle retroactive immunity for taking part in an illegal domestic spying operation? Well, these souls of altruism have a new old tactic that they’re using. They’re busily suing municipalities that dare to decide they’re going to plan their own broadband access.

Never mind that these are the same municipalities that have been ignored by the telecoms because the didn’t think there was enough profit in it for them to bother. Never mind that just because it’s a small rural area with a low population doesn’t mean they don’t have a right to broadband access without having to wait until the telecoms finally get around to it.

as for my “new old tactic”, that has to do with the spread of electric service. Then as now, small rural areas with low populations were often ignored because there wasn’t enough profit involved so they formed their own electric cooperatives to get service in their area. Naturally the big power distribution people didn’t like it and tried to stop them. They didn’t get away with it anymore than the telecoms are going to now.
