New Comment Policy

Up until yesterday I’ve pretty much left comments alone except for deleting obvious spam comments that Akismet manages to miss. Then last night I saw a recent comment from somebody who left a reasonable comment and entered “London Cosmetic Dentist” in the name field of the comment form.
I fully get it that one of the reasons that people leave comments is to build backlinks and improve their visibility on search engines. But is it necessary to be quite that obvious? Sorry, I’m not going to accept for a minute that a person’s name or handle is “London Cosmetic Dentist”. It’s just too far beyond reasonable.
Therefore, I’ve decided that anytime an otherwise reasonable comment contains little more than obvious keywords / phrases that the commenter wants better search engine position for, I’m going to change the name field to “Anonymous” and delete the url.
Feel free to use any url you want in a comment but lets keep the name field reserved for something that resembles a name or handle of some kind.

..still
good luck with your new policy!!
Yes, it does. I’ve just had it with this particular flavor of blatant abuse that I’m feeling a lot more free about editing or outright deleting comments…
like one just the other night from a wit that decided to call themselves “Film izle” and for a url gave http:// www filmizle eu (url magled to prevent giving it any juice)
Their masterfully insightful comment was:
“you are songs very nice :)”
That one was easy, forget editing and hit the spam button. I expect I’ll be doing a lot of that because I’m going to get tired of editing the ones that are otherwise legitimate except for blatant keyphrases in the name field.
