Comment Policy: Day Two

A mere two days since announcing the new comment policy and I’m now thinking seriously about announcing similar policies on my other blogs because the abuse seems to be climbing on all fronts. I’m thankful at least that these things don’t come on paper because between ten blogs I’d have moving boxes full of the things to deal with.
I guess that whether I announce such a policy on all of my other blogs or not, I am going to be a lot more willing and ready to hit the spam button on comments that abuse the privilege. And make no mistake, it IS a privilege and not a right to comment on somebody else’s blog. Using that ability to gain yourself some backlinks is cool, we all need ‘em and I’m fine with that. However being so uncouth about it as to not even pretend to be a legitimate commenter and use obvious SEO minded keywords and phrases in the name field is going too far.
I figure that if enough bloggers flag enough of these things as spam to Akismet, it will start catching them automatically. Yes, I realize that some legit comments might get lost in the shuffle, but it’s my blog and I have the final say about what gets written here, including in the comments.
