That’s a question that has to be answered by anyone that’s planning to create a website. Yes, there’s a bunch of “free” hosting solutions out there and that’s fine if you’re just talking about a personal page you’re building about you’re pet robot collection. If on the other hand you’re talking about a website, forum, blog or whatever that needs to be reliable, fast and responsive then that’s another matter.

Fortunately, there’s a very helpful tool. Web Hosting Geeks is a site that should be on the required reading list for anyone looking for a web hosting solution. I know that the next time I go looking for hosting I’m going to spend a couple days perusing their reviews before I decide on anything.

When you load the site the first thing you see is a top ten listing of the best web hosts for the year. The ratings are based on reviews that score each one on several factors:

User-friendliness
Quality
Price
Space
Reliability & Uptime
Traffic
Software
Customer support
Tech support

The average of the ratings for each of these factors is the overall rating for the host and is expressed as a percentage on the chart you see on the index page.

In addition to Web Hosting Geek’s reviews, you also get to check out reviews from present and past customers of each hosting company. The listings are sorted several different ways so that you can find the best hosting solution for your particular needs.
