Flexible, Organic LED’s

I don’t usually like to quote links from iwon.com because after a while they tend to stop working but I’m making an exception for this one because of the picture they have accompanying the story that looks like it jumped out of a stack of Halloween invitations.
The technology itself is pretty cool. it’s described in the story as a machine that prints lights:
The size of a semitrailer, it coats an 8-inch wide plastic film with chemicals, then seals them with a layer of metal foil. Apply electric current to the resulting sheet, and it lights up with a blue-white glow.
It’s an interesting technology but it’s got a way to go before it can be considered a practical option for home lighting. After something like 2000 hours it loses half of it’s brightness and continues to get dimmer until it needs to be replaced. If the usable light from it could be increased and the lifetime increased to rival traditional LED’s, they’ll really have something. In the meantime it’s more of a curiosity than anything else.
