Navy Sonar Use Ok'd

Welcome back!

So the Supreme court has decided that there doesn't need to be any limits to the Navy's use of sonar in their training exercises off the California coast.

My first thought about this was that perhaps all of those "opinions" ought to be collected together and burned in the barbecue grill. Then I realized that wouldn't exactly make for healthy grilling, surely eating food cooked over such poisonous opinions would be harmful.

If you're getting the idea that I disagree with the Supremes on this one, you're dead right. The first thing that I thought of about these exercises the Navy is doing was... "Hey, if doing this in that spot is harmful to the whales, why not move the exercise to someplace where the whales aren't. Poof, problem solved."

What I'd really like to know is why it is that some of these allegedly bright, intelligent individuals didn't think of this really simple solution instead of wasting God only knows how much resources in terms of time, effort and money. All of which could have been put to much better use in any number of other, more important issues.

As it is, at the very least we're going to end up with a generation or more of whales with severe damage to their hearing and natural sonar navigation abilities. What the heck, it's only another step on the road to their extinction.

Hello!?!?!?!?

Has Nobody ever watched Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home? Doesn't anybody ever learn anything?

Apparently not.
