MSDN Conference Attendees To Get Windows 7 Beta 1 DVD

Curious about the new version of Windows 7? Want to get an advance look at Microsoft's newest version of Windows? Or perhaps you're just a little bit masochistic? In either case, it turns out that there is a way to get a copy of it.

All you need to do is attend the upcoming MSDN Developer Conferences (MDC) and you'll get a Windows 7 Beta 1 DVD.

Microsoft announced Tuesday that they will host 11 MDCs from Dec. 9 until Feb. 19 in cities throughout the country. Of course, you're not getting anything free here, that's like buying one of those cracker box houses built on a concrete pad and expecting to find wood flooring under the linoleum when in fact, it was applied directly to the concrete pad. MDC Attendance is going to cost $99 per person.

That figures.

Not only that, but they're not going to be "immediately available" if you are attending the December sessions in Houston, Orlando, and Atlanta. Instead, Microsoft will mail the DVD's to them when they become available. (sounds like poor planning to me, you'd think they could run off a few thousand copies before each conference). In any event, Microsoft will have the DVDs on hand for the January and February session?s in Chicago, Washington, Minneapolis, New York, Detroit, Boston, Dallas, and San Francisco.

In addition to Windows 7, the MDC is also going to include sessions on Windows? Azure, Silverlight 2, Microsoft SQL data services, Visual Studio 2010 and the "Oslo" modeling platform.

There is, as yet, no word concerning when everybody else will get a chance at the Windows 7 Beta 1?’B. There's even less word about how many people actually WANT another version of WinBlows. (I sure as heck don't!)

According to a first look at Windows 7 earlier thiz2s year the release is not all that different from Windows Vista (a death sentence if ever I heard one), but it reportedly enhances the ways users can interact with the OS, including new networking discovery features and multimedia playback.
