Something Really Cool About to Happen

Welcome back!I’s going to happen to this blog sometime this morning.
Back in Nov, 2006 I added Statcounter tracking to this blog because I had discovered that it gave much better stats than the sitemeter I had been using.
Sometime this morning, Statcounter will record the 100,000th page load since I installed the statcounter code. As I [...]

WP Remix, Flexibility Is The Heart Of It

WP Remix is the first WordPress theme that I would actually consider paying for. Those that know me can tell you that a statement like that coming from me means a lot. I’m a tried and true cheapskate from way back with no intention to change. I’ve always preferred to do something for free anytime I have the chance. The only way I ever consider spending money on something is if it gives me more value, flexibility and / or function than the free versions.

Alexa Rankings And PageRank Are Both A Waste Of Time

Alexa has for years been the laughing stock of website statistics. It’s only based on the input of those who’re using browsers that have Alexa plugins or the relative few that put Alexa widgets on their sites. This means that Alexa is basing their statistics on a very small percentage of people.

Web Hosting Reviews At webhostinggeeks.com

Aside from having some idea what you’re going to do with a website, perhaps the single most important thing is deciding where you’re going to host the site. Any serious business or blog is going to need to be on a domain that isn’t just a sub domain of free hosting service.

How To Forward A Domain To A New Location

So, You’ve finally decided to bite the bullet and get an actual domain for that website or blog that you’ve been running on a subdomain since forever. The biggest problem you’ve got now is that all of a sudden those inbound links you’ve been working your arse off to get are going to stop working.

Which Host is Best?

That’s a question that has to be answered by anyone that’s planning to create a website. Yes, there’s a bunch of “free” hosting solutions out there and that’s fine if you’re just talking about a personal page you’re building about you’re pet robot collection. If on the other hand you’re talking about a website, forum, blog or whatever that needs to be reliable, fast and responsive then that’s another matter.

Name Change

Powered by Max Banner Ads Because of some confusion caused by the previous name of this blog and the name of one that was originally to be it’s successor, I’ve decided to change the name of this one to avoid the confusion.
The new name “Old Li2-Crystals”, should be pronounced “Old Dilithium Crystals”

Odd Search

Not too long ago I got the “Psychic Search” plugin from MaxBlogPress and I’ve found it to be a most useful tool. By using it to see what visitors to this blog are searching for I can more readily come up with content that suits those searches. Then not too long ago I looked and it showed that somebody had used “samira” as their search key.

Comment Policy: Day Two

A mere two days since announcing the new comment policy and I’m now thinking seriously about announcing similar policies on my other blogs because the abuse seems to be climbing on all fronts. I’m thankful at least that these things don’t come on paper because between ten blogs I’d have moving boxes full of the things to deal with.

New Comment Policy

Up until yesterday I’ve pretty much left comments alone except for deleting obvious spam comments that Akismet manages to miss. Then last night I saw a recent comment from somebody who left a reasonable comment and entered “London Cosmetic Dentist” in the name field of the comment form.
