Jumping The OS Gun

Not long ago I posted about how I’d had it with Windows and the way it’s buggyness cost me a mountain of files and ended up inspiring me to go Microsoft free in a move to Ubuntu linux. I discovered that making a move like that mostly out of anger and frustration, with almost no advance preparation, was not the way I should have migrated from one OS to another.

The Last Straw

It all started out innocently enough. As Windows users all over will know, once in a while, Windows occasionally gets enough un-dealt with crap built up that it starts to slow down the system and things become sluggish. Be it due to accumulated memory leaks or whatever, when it happens the only solution is to shut down and reboot.

I recently wrote about the VM Ware Player and some problems I was having getting the right network settings on it so that the virtual machine could access the real world internet. I’ve finally come up with the solution.

Multiple OS's With VMware Player

I’m sitting here with an XP machine and just as anyone who has read my stuff before would figure, I’m very interested in checking out Linux with the idea of eventually migrating most, if not all, of my computing activities to the free OS.

Beware Cheap Laptops

Welcome back!Network world has a report of something claiming to be the “world’s cheapest laptop”. However just because this thing can be had for as little as $130 doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a good idea.

Instant On Linux Will Hammer Windows

Picture this: Joe Sixpack needs to check in on his fave blogs and online news but he hasn’t got the time to wait for Windows to boot. He flips on his computer, five seconds later he’s got a browser running and is getting up to date while the guy next to him is still looking at the Windows logo, waiting for his machine to boot.

PC Mag Reviews Everex gPC

Powered by Max Banner Ads … and that review isn’t exactly nice. After reading it and looking over the specs on the thing, I can see why. This thing is barely enough to do basic browsing and not much more. The reviewer stated that it’s able to run Ubuntu linux… it’s not [...]

Microsoft vs Microsoft

Powered by Max Banner Ads This is just too funny for words. I just saw a bit on slashdot about how Micro$oft is now dissing it’s own stuff. Specifically, they’re making a big point now of talking XP down and Vista up. This PC World story talks about Micro$oft commissioning a study concerning [...]

Beware Of Windows Update

Powered by Max Banner Ads Well, Micro$oft has pulled a big one this time and I’m sure that lots of people have already heard about it but I’ll throw in my two cents anyway. Seems that their recent update put in an indexing program.. I gather it’s kinda a windoze equivalent of a Google desktop [...]

Micro$oft Making Another Linux Deal

Powered by Max Banner Ads Once again Micro$oft is making deals with Linux distributors. This time Linspire will be getting the ability to use M$ instant messaging and digital media. (something tells me that the digital media part is going to include all their nasty rights-chaining DRM as well)
