Space-Based Spying By Homeland Security Active

This is in spite of the fact that there are still a lot of un-answered questions about how they’re going to comply with privacy laws and what this is going to do to fourth amendment rights. It’s very possible that use of this kind of surveillance will be in violation of forth amendment protections if used beyond a certain magnification.

Man Shoots Video of Shuttle Launch From Airliner

I’ve been watching rockets being launched from Kennedy Space Center since the early days of project Apollo. I watched every bit of the Apollo 13 coverage that I could (after school anyway). I watched Apollo-Soyuz test mission and the skylab launch and the live coverage of it’s subsequent trouble laden deployment.

Stephen Hawking Says Alien Life Is Probably Primitive

 Powered by Max Banner Ads
It’s one of those ideas that makes you think. If *WE* are the high end of intelligent life in the universe then the universe could well be in serious trouble. Stephen Hawking expressed the idea during a lecture at George Washington University recently.

US Shoots Down Spy Satellite

 Powered by Max Banner Ads
First it was the Chinese that shot down a satellite about what, a year ago? It was a test of their anti-satellite weapons system. It also made a heck of a mess in orbit. Debris flying all over the place and actually turning out to be a navigation [...]

Shades Of Skylab

 Powered by Max Banner Ads
There’s a new scare headline up… “Disabled Spy Satellite Threatens Earth“. Just by reading that you’d think that somebody expected it to land in Times Square or downtown LA and honestly, it’s ridiculous because 75% of the Earth’s surface is water. Most of that is ocean. All by [...]

Orbital Space Has Litter Problem.

It seems that US Satellites now have something of a traffic problem… Debris left over from last year when China decided that it would be a brilliant idea to test an anti-satellite weapon. Now I realize that they felt it was important to test their weapon but doing so in [...]

Asteroid May Strike Mars

 Powered by Max Banner Ads
NASA’s Near Earth Object Program has a bit of interesting news. It seems that there is an asteroid called “2007 WD5″ that has a chance of hitting the red planet. Far as I can find out, this was discovered on Nov. 20, 2007 by the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey. [...]

High Voltage Adventure

 Powered by Max Banner Ads
The folks on the space shuttle had a busy week. They’ve been doing a bunch of work on one of the solar panels, including doing some extra spacewalks to do some repairs. This kind of work would be problem enough here on Earth but when you add the zero-g [...]
